Below is a message from Thomas Buford, Chair of the Local Rules Committee.

The Local Rules Committee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Alaska will convene, review the entirety of the Local Bankruptcy Rules, and propose revisions to the Local Rules during 2024. Our first meeting will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25th in the Historic Courtroom. An outline of the year’s process is below. A few notes:

1. If you cannot attend the kickoff meeting but would like to participate in the process, please email me at tbuford@bskd.com. If there is a particular area of the rules you are interested in (Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 13, etc.), please include that in your email.
2. The Committee will provide several opportunities to provide feedback on the rules. If you have any immediate suggestions, please email me at tbuford@bskd.com.
3. No bankruptcy experience is needed to participate in the process. Participation in the process is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the bankruptcy process and community.

2024 Local Rules Committee Timeline

1. First meeting: January 25th at 2:00 p.m.
2. February – May – divide into committees, review the rules, and suggest changes to rules
3. August – September – finalize revisions
4. No later than October 1 – publicize revisions for public comment
5. December 1 – revised rules go into effect
